Bruno Gambone - Large Sculptural Ceramic Vase, Italy circa 1960 | Glazed Stoneware
The Story
This large-scale stoneware vase was produced by Bruno Gambone in Italy during the 1960s. The piece features a structural rectangular body rising to a tall, narrow neck. The front and back surfaces are decorated with a hand-incised geometric pattern composed of vertical and horizontal linear grids in low relief. The object is finished in a textured, matte glaze with neutral sand and off-white tones, characteristic of Gambone’s transition away from traditional glazed finishes toward architectural and minimalist ceramic forms.
Literature / Bibliography
G. Gambone, B. Gambone, I Gambone: Oggetti d'arte in ceramica e gres, Catalogo Ragionato / Archival Exhibition Records, Firenze.
Condition
The vase is in excellent and original vintage condition. The heavy stoneware structure is intact, free of cracks, structural chips, or modern restorations. The matte glaze remains completely stable and uniform, showing only natural factory-inherent clay texture and slight tonal variations. The piece bears the authentic hand-incised signature "Gambone Italy" on the unglazed underside of the base.
Dimensions
H 50 x W 28 x D 17 cm
